GOOD TO KNOW.

Before you go,
a few answers.

Read all FAQs
Is an iPhone required?

No. Alongside CarPlay, you can try Android Auto or connect an existing VNC server; both remain experimental. Diagnostic sources can test the display without a phone connection. ICCOA is currently unavailable. Sources & compatibility →

Will it work with my car?

Your car browser needs modern web and touch support, plus local network access to Android. Compatibility varies by vehicle, software, and network. Test your setup while safely parked.

Does WheelPlay require root?

Normal local network connections do not require root. Experimental Tesla compatibility offers a root-free VPN option and a rooted hotspot-routing option for browsers that restrict private network access. Both require device testing. Compatibility guide ↗

Where do audio and microphone input go?

CarPlay uses Android audio and microphone by default, with optional browser routing. Browser microphone input needs trusted HTTPS and permission. Android Auto uses host audio and microphone only; VNC has no audio support.Audio setup guide ↗

Do I need a server or Internet access?

Android serves the browser display locally, without a cloud relay. VNC requires an existing server on the remote device. Online navigation and music may still need Internet access. Connect using the address in the app and use trusted networks.

Why do I need to import authentication assets?

Authentication assets are only needed for CarPlay connections and are not bundled in public builds. Import valid assets locally under Settings → CarPlay authentication assets. The web service, browser pairing, and other sources work without them.Supported import methods ↗

Is WheelPlay open source?

Yes. WheelPlay builds on DiPlay / xcertplay under GPL-3.0, preserving upstream and third-party notices. Read the code, report issues, or contribute. Third-party components and assets retain their own licenses. View the license ↗
